Week 3: May 13 – May 19
The Casually Cool Award
What do you like to do for fun?
When I’m away from the office, I enjoy spending time with my girlfriend and my chocolate lab “STEVE.” We like to be outdoors and do adventurous things like white water rafting, scuba diving, playing golf, and hiking. I also enjoy helping people to make connections between organizations and helping people to resolve problem through “cross-pollination.” I am a member of several local organizations including the Miami Valley Military Affairs Associations, Generation Dayton, Fisher-Nightingale House, and Operation Warm Heart.
Week 2: May 6 – May 12
The Workplace Image Award
What do you find most rewarding about your job?
What I find most rewarding about my job is the ability to positively impact people. I challenge our leaders to find ways to continually improve the service making it better for our Airmen. I decided to transition my military career from telecommunications to becoming a First Sergeant, which is comparable to an HR manager. As a First Sergeant, I get the opportunity to make positive change that directly impacts my Airmen and their families. I ensure they achieve their own goals and help them learn to solve their own problems. I connect them with people and resources needed to improve their lives. I love that I help Airman grow and develop into tomorrow’s Air Force leaders.
Week 1: April 24 – May 5
The First Impressions Award
What made you decide to pursue your current career or vocation?
After high school, I elected to join the military because I knew I wasn’t mature enough and couldn’t afford a university. My father was in the Marines and both my grandfathers were in the Army. I learned from them a sense of service and loyalty. After a few years of being in the Air Force, I fell in love with the service. They provided me the opportunity to travel the world, continue my education and serve the country I love. I felt like I was a part of something bigger than myself.
