Dawn's Story

A Star is Re-born

Today, Dawn is an independent woman who shines as an example for area job seekers. However, not too long ago, Dawn was at the lowest point of both her personal and professional life.

After being laid off from her position with a local employer in 2005, Dawn's unstable, abusive relationship with her husband ended. Although she worked one job for a short period of time, Dawn had difficulty regaining employment and rebuilding her life on her own.

When she was referred to Clothes That Work by The Job Center in May of 2007, Dawn had been out of work for the majority of the past two years.

Dawn enrolled in the Opportunities That Work training and mentoring program at Clothes That Work where she learned some interview skills and practiced these with a volunteer mentor from the business community.

As a model at the Clothes That Work Fashioning Futures luncheon in 2007, Dawn impressed many business professionals and community leaders in the audience.

In June, 2008, Dawn contacted a woman she met at the luncheon and asked about positions that may be open in her field. Dawn is now proudly employed as a Computer Operator at CareSource. What an impressive accomplishment!

Dawn says, "I hope my story will encourage other women to strive for self-reliance, to realize there is hope and to reach for the stars."
