Week 3: Casually Cool
What do you like to do for fun?
I like to walk my dog, ride a bike, play tennis, play my guitar, paint a painting, seeing a play, read a book, and go out to dinner—it might be fun to try that all in one day. There’s never a boring moment.
Weekly 2: Workplace Image
What do you find most rewarding about your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is not knowing anything. It’s an odd thing to say out loud, but it’s the secret to my success. The assumption is first and last deadly sin in my world. The day I think I know it all is is the end of my career. The first question I ask people is, “what do you do on a daily basis? What do you wish you were doing?” My next task is to listen carefully. Usually you’ll hear the problem, and with a bit of imagination, you’ll hear the shadow of solution too. But first you have to forget your assumptions and just listen.
Week 1: First Impressions
What made you decide to pursue your current career or vocation?
My vocation, change manager, is combination of all the things I like to do. I like to solve problems, and there’s a problem or puzzle at the heart of every project. No one ever begins a project thinking “everything going great! I think I’ll create a project to change that!” I like helping people. There’s nothing like seeing the faces of the people when you unveil the solution to cause that may have seemed hopeless when you began.
